Are you interested in leading Family Rides?

posted Jan 29, 2013, 10:33 PM by Austin Greenwood   [ updated Jul 13, 2013, 12:56 AM by Di Elliffe ]

We are keen to continue our monthly Family Ride events but our former leaders have now moved on. The rides were enjoyed by families, with beginning riders, tagalongs, tandems and trailers all taking part.
The rides are covered by our insurance and will be supported by us with advice, information and advertising.
Previously, the monthly rides were organised on Sunday mornings starting around 10am.
The favourite routes were:
  • Intercity Cycleway;
  • Pipeline Track (from Fern Tree or Neika to the Wellington Falls Track);
  • Eastern Shore (from Sunshine Tennis Club Howrah north to the Tasman bridge);
  • Eastern Shore (from the Tasman bridge north to Geilston Bay);
  • Tinderbox loop starting and finishing in Blackmans Bay;
  • Ranelagh to Judbury picnic ride (a Tim Stredwick special);
  • Cygnet Coast Road starting and finishing in January (good in Jan/Feb to buy blueberries)
  • Annual Bruny Island weekend tour
  • Easter at Deloraine
Numbers on the rides could be up to 20-30. Normally an email is sent out informing everybody of the next ride with a brief description of the ride, and  the leader's contact details.
The rides are conducted with a minimum of formality and plenty of stops, with regular regrouping along the way.

Ian and Andy, our previous ride leaders, are happy to get some new leaders started with advice and information.

If you are prepared to volunteer to lead a ride now and then,  just email  and let's talk,

1970's/80's Raleigh road bike, 10 speed with black handle bar grip and all original paint job and most parts original.
The chain holding it was cut some time between 9am and 3pm on Monday 3rd Sept. It was locked up in the bike racks at the School of Fine Arts campus near the Entrepot gallery and art shop.

The photo was taken when i first bought the bike. It now has a panier rack and new tail and head lights. There is also a tool kit bag attached under the seat

I reallllllllllyyyyyyyyy love this bike and I'm reallly upset at losing it. Please let me know if you have any information on its whereabouts and please share this with anyone you think could help.

Bike Stolen

posted Apr 23, 2012, 6:05 PM by Austin Greenwood   [ updated Apr 23, 2012, 8:13 PM ]

The pink lady’s bike (which featured in Bicycle Tasmania enews in January) was lent to a newly arrived student from Italy. A week later it was stolen from her house in North Hobart. With white bar tape and Ricardo on the forks, this is a distinctive bike. If you spot her, please contact
